PAUL BAKER

Below is a series of images showing the various stages of painting  a single figure I go through to get to the end product. I have painted this figure mainly in Plaka Acrylic paints and the colours I have used are in italics.

THE FIGURE IS MADE BY REAPER AND IS

KYLA, BOUNTY HUNTER

The figure arrives to me untouched

The figure is filed to remove all mould lines and flash and pinned together.

The figure is undercoated black by hand. (Humbrol Matt Black 33)

All white metal work is scratched from figure to show metal underneath.

All flesh areas are painted with Plaka Redbrown.

Lips are painted with Plaka Redbrown and White and highlighted with more White.

Eyes are inserted along with second flesh coat. Redbrown plus Yellow Ochre.

Final flesh tone added Yellow Ochre and Flesh and leather work painted Yellow Brown.

Second leather coat added using a touch of White.

Final leather highlight added by adding more White and Dark Brown painted to other items.

Second and highlight coats added to Dark Brown by adding Yellow brown to the mix.

Wood items are painted using Yellow Brown and Brown.

Second coat of wood is added by using more Yellow Brown.

Highlight the wood by adding a little White to the mix.

Paint Kyla's hair Dark Brown with a little Yellow Brown.

Second Coat to the hair with a little more Yellow Brown added to the mix.

Highlight the hair with more Yellow Brown and paint shoes with the same colour mix.

Add White for second coat on shoes.

Add more White for highlight of shoes and paint parchment with the same colour. Paint yellow metal work with Gold.

Add more White for the parchment and add Silver to the Gold for the yellow metal Highlights.

Add even more White to highlight the parchment.

Check figure to make sure all areas have been painted.

Add final flesh tone by using Flesh.

Gloss varnish the figure with Humbrol Gloss Varnish.

Matt varnish the figure using Blackfriars Matt Varnish.

Create the base by using Tetrion, course sand and some larger stones.

Paint the base with Humbrol Dark Earth Acyrlic.

Drybrush base first with Yellow Ochre and then White. Paint the stones Grey and highlight White.

Add some static grass and highlight with Yellow Ochre, add a little bush, write text on parchment and paint the base Humbrol Matt Black.

Figure completed.
